If you want to maintain all of the your home's components and avoid costly repairs down the road, it is beneficial to run through seasonal maintenance tasks. With fall on the horizon, what better time is there to prepare for a new season? Check out these home maintenance tips for CT homeowners who are looking to build a strong fall home maintenance strategy.

Outside/Roof Inspection

As the leaves begin to fall and accumulate everywhere you look, it becomes necessary to regularly clean your gutters and downspouts. Make sure all drainage areas are unclogged by debris by removing the debris with a plastic scooper or with the special curved wand attached to your garden hose. Make your life easier by considering installing perforated gutter guards or install mesh that prevents leaf debris pile up.
Inspect your roof, or hire a licensed professional to examine your roof for seasonal wear and tear. If the shingles are chipping and curling, replace them to avoid leakage and keep the house aesthetically pleasing. If there is considerable damage to the roof, it's time to replace the roof before the winter months snow builds up and caves in the garage, ruining Dad's antique sports car.

Replace Any Under-performing Windows

Replacing your old windows with new, energy efficient replacement windows is a great way to make your home more comfortable and attractive, while also reducing your monthly heating and cooling bills.

One of the simplest but most satisfying fixups you can do is to make your windows sparkle and shine, before they are covered with winter grime. If you want more information you can learn from a professional in CT Windows: How To Clean Your Windows.

Attic Insulation

As we all know, heat rises so an important housewarming tip is to check your attic to make sure the insulation is installed properly. The vapor barrier on insulation should face down toward the living space. If the vapor barrier is installed incorrectly then the insulation will trap moisture, causing possible water damage. To install attic insulation, unroll the insulation with the paper side out, covering the attack floor. Then install small pieces of insulation between joints on the attic floor. These pieces of insulation let air flow through it to prevent moisture build up and the condensation in the winter.

Clean And Store Seasonal Furniture

Once you have taken your last dip in the pool this summer, power wash outdoor furniture and cushions.  Once dry, store cushions in dry area to prevent cracking, and fading over the fall and winter months. Alternatively, you can wait until late October, when the temperatures tend to dip. Once spring rolls along next year, you will be pleased that you stored them and they're ready for use!
