6 Signs You Should Remodel Your Bathroom
By Blue Corona Dev Oct 14, 2015
There are many reasons why homeowners remodel their bathroom. Remodeling can be for important reasons but it can also be a fun way to improve your home. Here are a few signs that you are a ready for a remodel in the most used and essential room in your house.
Your Bathroom Isn’t Functional
It can embarrassing if you have to tell guests about problems in your bathroom like, you have to wiggle the handle for the toilet to flush, don’t worry the sink is always clogged or the door gets stuck and you have to push hard to get it to close. Putting a bandage on it, so to speak, can help with a quick fix but eventually things will stop working altogether. These little problems can be a big reason to remodel because it will be more costly when a malfunctioning pipe bursts and destroys the bathroom.
Hazardous Wear and Tear
If you have flaking tile grout, yellowed whites, moisture damage or mold, it’s time to take the plunge and remodel. These are aesthetic problems, but they can also potentially be hazardous. If you have an older home, flaking paint could contain toxic lead. Surfaces in older homes that aren’t properly sealed could release asbestos into your home. Damaged surfaces in the bathroom are also harder to clean, which leads to increased mold and bacteria. In this case a remodel serves two purposes, better aesthetics and healthier environment.
It’s hard enough to get your eyes open in the morning but if your bathroom has poor lighting it’ll be even harder to get ready for your day. A few more lighting fixtures can make your bathroom seem more spacious and a pleasant space or you could even add a skylight to really wow people. All in all, sufficient lighting is an important feature of a functional bathroom and is just another reason to start your remodel.
Lack of Storage
Your bathroom looks really messy but it’s not your fault. There just isn’t enough space to put all of your necessities. Having to some of your bathroom stuff in a nearby closet can be inconvenient and frustrating. The addition of cabinets, shelves, in-shower shelves, towel racks, medicine cabinets, over-the-toilet storage and more can make you more organized and keep your bathroom looking pristine. Plus, having more storage allows you to bring out your creative side with decor and plants.
Outdated and Out of Style
Maybe there isn’t any big reason to change your bathroom but you want a new style to finally replace your outdated wall paper and bathroom features. Old floral wallpaper may not be giving you that modern sleek look you are wanting. Also, the old sink and a tiny mirror make your bathroom seem old and boring. Wanting a remodel solely because of the style is not a bad thing. Actually around half of remodels that are done are due to homeowners wanting updated features, fixtures, and a new look.
Your Needs Have Changed
As we all age, our needs and capabilities change. Most elderly remodel their bathrooms so they can replace their old features to get ones that are more easy to use. Walk in showers and lower toilets are a couple of examples of those features. But, maybe the remodeling needs are for the families latest edition. As the baby grows so does the need for space as well as a bath tub rather than a shower.
