Sneaky sneaky you, how did you create so much space in here? Check out three small tricks to make your home look bigger.
This may be a slap on the forehead, but over time a lot of people slowly accumulate useless junk and end up running out of storage space. All this stuff get’s put on living room counters, entry way cupboards, or just all over every exposed service. Declutter by having a yard sale, throwing away old mail and investing in storage furniture to add more space. You know, the coffee tables with hidden drawers or the chairs that open up. Little steps you take to declutter will make your home look so much bigger because you don’t have random stuff everywhere. Lastly, you don’t need pictures of family everywhere. Yes, you all are very impressive, but it can be unnerving for a guest to always have a family member on the wall staring at them, plus it clutters the wall making the room look smaller. Try cutting down pictures on the wall to a reasonable amount.
Light It Up
Light is magic. Photographers chase light to flawlessly capture their subject and tell a story. For homes, lights can do the same. Hopefully your home has windows that provide natural light, giving your home warmth and a connection to the outside, if not, you should probably add some windows so your home doesn’t look like a bomb shelter. Natural light is easy to obtain but some people block it out with long and dark drapes that block out the sun. Well, that’s just rude. Let the sun shine in with some sheer window coverings, this will allow you to add some style to your home as well as make your home look more lively and open. Can’t get enough light? Okay, add some extra twinkle adding some modern and colorful lamps around the room.
Mirror Mirror On the Wall
Mirrors can make your room look bigger, why you ask, because they utilize the power of natural and artificial lighting. Pick a good focal point from an open space and angle your mirror to capture that. This will trick the eye and make your room look bigger than it is. You can also place your mirror on the wall angled from the window to catch the light because it will bounce that light around your home, effectively increasing the look of size. You can also use mirrored cabinet doors to make spaces feel large and uncluttered. Most importantly, mirrors can capture the smiling faces of your guests when they see how open and spacious your home is.
