For example, without a design-build firm, you may need to hire and manage the work of a designer, an architect, a general contractor, and one or more subcontractors for specific installations, such as plumbing, electrical, flooring, and tile.

The next step you’ll take with a design-build company is the preliminary stage, including the design and proposal phases. In many instances, this stage may require a deposit, as your request for a proposal involves several hours of time and research so the designer and team can scope the job, design the plans, and write a comprehensive proposal tailored to your renovation.
In this phase, the experts will get into the details of your home renovation. This includes detailing the materials they will use, confirming your needs and desires, determining the cost to complete the renovation, and estimating the timeline for completion.
Samples, as well as 3D renderings or layouts, will be provided, as necessary, to help you envision exactly what your home will look like. There will be some back-and-forth interaction between you and the expert designer, so it’s important to always be open and let them know your thoughts.
At the end of this stage, you’ll be presented with a final written proposal and estimate. You’ll need to sign the paperwork at this stage if you want to proceed with the project.
Construction
Once you approve the written contract, the experts go to work on your home renovation project. They will work diligently behind the scenes, preparing for construction. This includes coordinating all aspects of the renovation, from concept to completion.
At this point, the project manager is your main point of contact. The project manager will keep you informed and updated throughout the process regarding schedules, the scope of work, and any concerns you have. You can ask questions at any time.
Final Walkthrough
After the construction is complete, you’ll do a final walkthrough with your project manager and address any concerns, make minor changes, and ask any questions you may have.
