6 Ideas for a CT Bathroom Remodel

By Blue Corona Dev Jul 28, 2014

Budget limitations don’t necessarily mean you can’t remodel your bathroom. If you take the time to consider the options available to you, you can still give your bathroom a makeover without spending an unreasonable amount of money. Material costs alone can be easily managed by doing the shopping yourself. In the end, you will be pleasantly surprised by what you can accomplish with even a limited amount of resources and a tight budget to work with.

DIY or Hire a Professional?

The very first step to a successful ct bathroom remodel is to be brutally honest with your remodeling skills. If you struggle to fix other home projects, hiring a professional is the safest route. Many homeowners decide to use a DIY approach to save money, but if you do not know exactly what you are doing, the project could end up actually costing you more in repairs and/or downtime. If you do decide to DIY, know what you can handle and make sure your plans do not go outside the scope of your skills.

New Paint

This should be one of the first tasks on your list. Even a new coat of paint can have a surprising effect on your bathroom, bringing new life into the room or even making the space seem larger. Best of all- you can use this as a jumping off point to design a new color scheme for bathroom accessories such as towels and mats. On a smaller budget, white paint and accessories are the way to go because manufactures make more of them. If you’re willing to spend a little more, light colors make a bathroom inviting and spa-like. Painted stripes are also an excellent way to update a bathroom, and they look great in subtle neutral colors.

Update Your Lighting

Lighting can make a huge impact on your bathroom remodel. If you are considering new lighting fixtures for you bathroom, plan early because new lighting may require rewiring. Typically, designers use dimmers, wall sconces, and recessed lighting to add low and high lights into the bathroom. Don’t forget to place the lighting in the right place, including the space over the tub and along the mirror.

Add More Storage

Adding storage space is one of the most effective ways to update a bathroom. Repurpose your old furniture to add character to the remodel- paint a bookcase and use it to store towels, magazines, bath soaps, and anything else you deem necessary to your bathroom experience. You can also install pullout shelves into the cabinets so that items are more viewable, which prevents you from purchasing things you already own.

Shower Tiles

There are several factors to consider when selecting a material for your shower tile.  It is essential that the material is durable since this area must withstand a lot of wear and tear, as well as a constant onslaught from moisture, dirt, soap and more.   Also, shower tiles must be slip resistant even under wet conditions, and they have to look good and complement your bathroom design.  That’s a lot to ask of a tile material!  The good news is there are a number of tile materials to choose from that fit these criteria, and your bathroom design professional can help you find the right material for you.  The most common materials for tile floors are ceramic, porcelain or stone, while glass slabs or tiles are sometimes also used for shower walls.

Consider Your Future Needs

Consider adding grab bars, a seat or bench in the shower. If you decide to include a tub, make sure that the surround is low or incorporates a step. Design showers without a very low or no threshold.
